How to Paint Laminate Kitchen Cabinets

How to Paint Laminate Kitchen Cabinets

I’m Natalie and I’m going to be showing
you how to refresh these old kitchen cabinets and make them into
something beautiful. The materials we’re going to be using for
this DIY is Selleys Sugar Soap, a Dulux Renovator Range for cabinets and
doors, and a Plastic and Laminate Primer. So the first thing we’ve got to do is take
all of these cabinets off our kitchen. So I’ve taken these off already. And I numbered them just behind the
cabinet before I took them off so I remember where I’m going to put them back. One thing I like to do is have a cup handy
to put all my screws in so I don’t lose them when it’s time to put my cabinets
back on. I’ve got my Sugar Soap wipes here and
we’re going to clean these doors and cabinets down. We want a nice squeaky clean finish to
paint over. I’m taping out the back of the drawers and
cabinets because we’re not going to be painting the back. I’m going to give them a sand,
just to rough it up so the primer and paint will stick. And now it’s time to prime. So I’ve got my Dulux Renovator Range
Plastic and Laminate Primer here. I’ve put this whole tube inside and
stirred it for two minutes. I’m applying this primer with long smooth
strikes because I want an even distribution. Once I finished applying the primer,
I ran an empty roller over the top just to give it a nice smooth finish. Our primer has now dried and we’re going
to be putting our first coat of paint on. An amazing thing about this Dulux
Renovator Range is that you can choose any color available throughout Dulux. So we’ve chosen this beautiful grey color. We’re going to apply our paint in the same
fashion that we applied our primer. So just using long smooth sleeping
strikes. Our first coat of paint has now dried on
our cabinets. I’ve given it a light sand with a fine
grit sandpaper and now I’m going to apply a second coat. These cabinets will only need two coats. And make sure to leave eight hours drying
time between each coat. So my second coat of paint has just dried
on my cabinet and they are really ready to be put back into the kitchen. You will be the envy of all of your
friends with your new beautiful kitchen.
