Food webs. Vlog about food chains

Hello.
Today I wanted to tell you about food chains. The idea of this video came to my mind when I was watching “Shark Tale” Do you remember that scene when Sykes shows Oscar his place in their food chain? This is what I am talking about A food chain is a sequence that demonstrates how one organism forms the food for another organism It begins with the simplest animals or plants and contunies until the top of the chain is reached. Humans or predator animals are often at that top. A lot of food chains make a food web. What lenght can the food chain be? There are several examples of multilayer sequences like Inside of a caterpillar’s body there may be flies maggots that may contain nematoda Inside of nematoda there can be bacteria Inside of nematoda there can be bacteria that can contain viruses which are smallest link in the food chain Still, there can’t be the endless number of chains, it all depends on the environment. How does the food chain work? Have a look at my example You see that it begins with a simple leaf and as we move from a link to a link we can see also that each other species is more developed from the point of view of evolution than the previous one. Plants such as grass and trees are towards the bottom of the food chain. Grazing animals browse on these plants and they are in turn eaten by predators such as foxes or wolverines. Their sheepshift as one famous character from a TV series said Their dung fertilizes the soil encouraging the growth of new plants So basically a food chain becomes a circle. There are 2 types of food chain, or better say food webs. A detrital web and a grazing web. The difference between them is what lies on the bottom In a detrital web the remains of dead plants, dead animals and faeces play a central role while in a grazing web the primary consumer feeds on a living plant A couple of examples. A grazing food web A butterfly consumes a leaf, a dragonfly consumes the butterfly, a frog consumes the dragonfly, a hawk consumes the frog A detrital web is typical for deep lakes, oceans and woods where a central role belongs to fungi Linear food chains or food webs are quite rare in nature because one organism can actually consume both plants, animals, living or dead organisms. Since the food web is pretty complex it won’t suffer any serious damage if one link disappears It is believed that ecological system that contains complex food chain with lots of links and lots of species is more stable. So this is all I wanted to tell you about food webs and food chains If you know any examples of interesting food chains please share in comments. Hope you enjoyed this video, subscribe to the channel, have a great day and bye for now.
